When Louis Jobidon moved to Hornby Island, he discovered he was living close to a winter feeding ground for orcas. The kayaker recently took his boat out to the grounds and got a closer encounter than he expected when a whale nearly tipped him over.
(Maybe he shouldn't have been intruding on the whales' territory, but whatever.)
Jobidon isn't the first British Columbian to come so close to ocean mammals recently.
Earlier this month, an orca pod was spotted attacking some dolphins near Departure Bay, and a Squamish environmentalist caught the whole scene from the deck of a ferry.
