Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert and is forecasting accumulations of snow between 10 to 25 cm today and tomorrow.
It says a low pressure system developing off Vancouver Island is expected to spread more moisture across the South Coast bringing between five to 10 cm of snow tonight.
A strong Arctic ridge of high pressure over B.C.'s Interior is pushing cold air to the coast.
The weather service says the outflow will also bring strong winds of up to 90 km/h to B.C.'s North and Central Coasts.
More snow is expected Sunday with accumulations between five to 15 cm, before changing to rain later in the day.
There is also a risk of freezing rain developing Sunday night over eastern sections of the Fraser Valley.
