Coach Joel Quenneville said that Hossa would miss two to three weeks with an upper body injury, according to the club's Twitter feed.
Hossa is third on the club with 24 goals, and fourth with a total of 50 points. He leads Chicago with three short-handed markers, to go along with four power-play goals and four game winners.
He left the game early in Chicago's win over Pittsburgh at Soldier Field on Saturday night.
The Blackhawks also announced a three-year extension for left wing Brandon Bollig.
Bollig, in his first full season with Chicago, has six goals and six assists in 62 games to go along with 69 penalty minutes.
The 27-year-old native of St. Charles, Mo., was signed as a free agent in 2010 after playing two seasons of collegiate hockey with St. Lawrence University in upstate New York.
