Dovercourt Road fire kills 1, injures 3 in west Toronto

A woman in her 20s is dead and three other people are in critical condition following a residential fire on Dovercourt Road in Toronto's west end.

Fire officials say they were called to the blaze just after 3 a.m. Friday after smoke was seen coming from a building on Dovercourt near Dupont Street.

Fire officials said the blaze broke out in the living room of an apartment above a vacant store. Fifty-five firefighters battled the blaze.

There was no immediate word on what may have caused the fire. The Ontario fire marshal has been notified.
