Syncrude oilsands mine gets new boss; Mark Ward to start next month

CALGARY - Syncrude Canada Ltd., the consortium that runs one of Alberta's oldest and biggest oilsands mines, is about to get a new boss.

Canadian Oil Sands Ltd., the largest Syncrude owner with a 37 per cent interest, says Mark Ward has been appointed as Syncrude CEO, effective April 1.

He will replace Scott Sullivan, who's returning to U.S. energy giant ExxonMobil.

Most recently, Ward oversaw ExxonMobil operations in Nigeria.

Under a management services agreement, ExxonMobil and its Canadian subsidiary, Imperial Oil Ltd. (TSX:IMO), are in charge of operations at Syncrude, north of Fort McMurray Alta.

Other Syncrude owners include Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU), Sinopec, CNOOC, Murphy Oil and Mocal Energy.
