Vancouver School Board to vote on Gladstone Secondary adult education

The Vancouver School Board is expected decide today whether to relocate an adult education centre to Gladstone Secondary School in East Vancouver.

Trustee Allan Wong he says there's classroom space at Gladstone going unused and the move will save the school board $600,000 each year.

But some Gladstone students and their parents are concerned about the idea.

Vin Dhaliwal, the secretary for the Gladstone Parent Advisory Committee, says the available space at Gladstone is used, just not all the time, and if the classrooms are made available to adult students, secondary school class schedules won't be as flexible.

"The Vancouver school board has not been forthcoming and transparent with their plans. We are not rejecting their proposal up front, we just want more time to review the details of the proposal. It's a huge concern when we feel we haven't fully been consulted."
