Calgary fire crews battled a major fire that broke out at IKO Industries in the city's southeast late Tuesday morning.
Black smoke could be seen pouring from the building site, located in the 1600 block of 42 Avenue S.E., at the site of the roofing company's factory.
Police upgraded the blaze to a three alarm fire and said crews fought fire from several angles.
Surrounding buildings were evacuated, although no injuries or missing people have been reported, say police.
“All of a sudden we heard little pops and we went outside,” Mark Sebert, who works at a nearby business, told Global News.
“No big explosions or anything like that and then the fire department showed up and that was it.”
Calgary Police Service closed several roads in the Ogden area, including Ogden Road and 42nd Ave S.E., and asked residents and drivers to avoid the area.
According to the Calgary Herald, Tuesday's fire was not the first blaze at the site.
In December 2006, crews battled a two alarm fire at the plant and nine people were taken to hospital.
In August of 2009, firefighters were called to the site when after recycled paper insulation spontaneously ignited.
