Police grab man accused of assault as he goes out window

An alleged assault suspect was saved by police, who grabbed him by his ankles after he attempted to throw himself out of a sixth-floor window.

Gordon Maracle, 28, allegedly arrived at an apartment building on Gulliver Road, near Eglinton Avenue and Keele Street, Monday at around 1:30 a.m., contrary to a court order.

A woman refused to let him into the apartment, but he forced his way in and locked the door, according to police.

The victim told police he then violently assaulted her by kicking, punching and choking her while using a cleaver.

She was able to scream for help and break free to open the door to police.

Once the officers were inside, the man allegedly attempted to escape by jumping from the sixth-floor window.

Police say officers grabbed him by his ankles as he dangled from the window.

Police said that once safely inside, the man disrobed and continued to fight with the officers for 10 minutes.

He was taken into custody without further harm.

Maracle is charged with:

- Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling

- Forcible Confinement

- Assault

- Threatening Death

- Assault with a Weapon

He will appear in court on March 12.
