If your daily morning routine includes constant yawning and a strong cup of coffee, getting through that morning chunk before lunch can feel like a chore.

On top of morning emails, reading the news and following up with our social media accounts, a recent survey by temperory staffing company Accountemps found most Canadians spend their mornings distracted by the web.

"At least 68 per cent of Canadian CFOs said they spend their morning on emails so that certainly seems to be the most distracting part of actually getting your day started," says Dianne Hunnam-Jones, Canadian district president of Accountemps. She suggests allotting yourself a set amount of time to review the inbox in the morning and then moving on.

Hunnam-Jones notes (and all of us can agree with this one) that since Monday mornings can be a drag, a lot of people don't get productive until Tuesday. If that's a fairly accurate description of you, she recommends not scheduling any appointments or meetings until Tuesday.

And while most Canadians are adapting to this past weekend's daylight saving time change, getting up on Monday morning this past week probably felt 10 times worse. Hunnam-Jones says getting a good amount of sleep (at least 7 to 8 hours), for example, will impact how productive you are in the morning.
