New York City building collapse sends smoke into Manhattan sky

Heavy smoke can be seen rising from an apparent building collapse in Upper Manhattan.

Images posted on Twitter showed thick brown smoke rising from the building near East 116 St. and Park Avenue. Most of the buildings in the area, in New York City's Harlem neighbourhood, are five- or six-storey complexes.

Reuters said fire officials are investigating reports of a building collapse.

It’s unclear if anyone has been injured.
