Last week, we told you about how Victoria, B.C. residents buy the most sex toys in Canada. Well, turns out the same city also leads the country in — wait for it — selfies.
According to data gathered by TIME Magazine, people in Victoria are the most selfie-obsessed in Canada.
Victoria has 34 selfie-takers per 100,000 people, according to the report.
But Canadians overall are nowhere near the top selfie-takers in the world: Makati City and neighbouring Pasig in the Philippines ranked number one with 258 selfies per 100,000 people.
Overall, Victoria comes in at just 81st; the only other Canadian city to make the 100-location list is Edmonton, which ranks at number 98.
"We want to show off to our friends and people around us that we have a certain lifestyle," Victoria social media expert Mat Wright told The Vancouver Sun.
"It sort of feeds upon itself. You see your friend doing it on Facebook or Twitter and you think, 'I've gotta keep up.'"
So how did TIME come to this conclusion? From Jan. 28 to Feb. 2 and March 3 to 7, the magazine measured over 400,000 Instagram photos tagged with "selfie" that included geographic location. However, it is worth noting that not all selfies are tagged with the word or are linked to location.
"Selfie" was the Oxford Dictionaries 2013 word of the year.
