Newfoundland community declares state of emergency after taps run dry

PIGEON COVE, N.L. - A small community in northwestern Newfoundland has declared a state of emergency because its water system is frozen.

The provincial government says ice on the pond used for the water supply in the Pigeon Cove-St. Barbe area is more than a metre thick.

The province and the Canadian Red Cross are supplying bottles of water for the dozens without running water.
