Gas leak in downtown Vancouver triggers building evacuations

Several buildings have been evacuated after a backhoe hit a gas main supplying a construction site at Richards and Robson Streets in downtown Vancouver this morning.

An area stretching from one block south to three blocks north has been closed to traffic.

Crews are on scene and around noon appeared to be successfully capping the leak, according to the CBC's Jason Proctor.
