Volunteers from the Coquitlam Search and Rescue team found the pair around 3 a.m. PT Wednesday, but they could not be lifted out by helicopter because of the weather conditions.
The girls were not dressed or equipped for an night outside in the wilderness, and by the time the rescuers reached them they could not hike out themselves because they were too cold, wet and tired.
So instead the SAR team set up a camp, and they spent the night resting so they could hike out in the morning. The hike is expected to take about three or four hours.
It's believed the two girls left on the hike between noon and 2 p.m. but lost their bearings. They used a cellphone to call for help around 6 p.m.
