MacDonald, Dettwiler signs national defence deal for eight radar systems

RICHMOND, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX:MDA) has signed a $64-million contract with the Department of National Defence to deliver eight radar surveillance systems.

The technology will be integrated into Canada's fleet of CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft that's used by the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The radar surveillance system uses high-resolution imaging to detect, locate and classify vehicles and ships.

It can be used for domestic surveillance, as well as search and rescue missions, MDA said.

MDA provides space technology as well as satellite data and surveillance information and systems to commercial and government organizations around the world.
