Eight people arrested in Alberta on drug, weapons charges, seven from Halifax

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. - Alberta police have arrested eight people on drug and weapons charges who are suspected of being part of a trafficking network with ties to Atlantic Canada.

An organized crime unit made up of RCMP and other police say six people are originally from Halifax and were arrested following a five-month investigation in Grande Prairie.

Two other people were arrested and charges were pending.

Police say the people in the group are members of a Halifax criminal network and accuse them of dealing drugs in northwestern Alberta.

Officers say they seized cocaine, two prohibited weapons and other evidence of drug trafficking.

Six of the men face 19 drug and weapons-related charges and are to appear in Grande Prairie provincial court on April 1.
