Owner of truck charged in crash that caused gas leak in Sylvan Lake, Alberta

SYLVAN LAKE, Alta. - A 21-year-old man is facing several charges in a crash that caused a gas leak and forced an evacuation of part of a central Alberta town.

Mounties say a truck crashed into the Telus building in Sylvan Lake on Saturday.

That caused a gas leak, which police say resulted in part of downtown Sylvan Lake to be evacuated for nine hours.

The driver of the truck and the passengers fled the scene and later that morning, the driver reported that the truck had been stolen.

One of the passengers, a 24-year-old Sylvan Lake man, was treated for head injuries and released.

Thomas Hanger of Three Hills, Alta., is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, public mischief, failure to remain at the scene and driving with no insurance.

Hanger is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Red Deer on April 1.
