It is March 26, and Atlantic Canada is bracing for a mammoth storm that is expected to bring up to 50 centimetres of snow and forceful winds.
Some schools, offices and — gasp— even liquor stores were closed in Nova Scotia, and many flights are cancelled.
Storm-watchers in Halifax took to social media to document the winter onslaught. Videos on Vine and Instagram show the beginning of the beast in the east. The Halifax Chronicle-Herald also posted the best photos from the storm.
Photos on Instagram and Twitter also show the blizzard's arrival, and over time the brilliant 'Juanabe' hashtag was born.
Anthony Sagliani with Accuweather tweeted this simulated photo of what #Juanabe might look like if it was seen from space.
And of course the storm is doing a number on other parts of the Maritimes. This is a photo take in PEI.
And it's not just Atlantic Canada that's stuck in perpetual winter. The rest of Canada — except for the west coast —won't escape the cold until the first half of April, according to the CBC.
"We may get a little teaser — mainly on the weekend — of sun and near seasonal temperatures, but the long range, unfortunately, there is no good news there," said Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald.
