The team's goalie, Dalen Kuchmey, made headlines after he walked off the ice mid-game when the Spits were trailing the Knights 8-1.
Kuchmey did not return.
Instead, he went to the dressing room, changed and drove away from the arena after giving up eight goals on 26 shots.
London went on to win the game 10-2.
Earlier in the game, Kuchmey, who was filling in for regular starter Alex Fotinos, appeared to have indicated to the bench that he wanted to be taken out.
However, he was kept in the game.
"Having spent my career in hockey, playing my fair share of challenging games and coaching under some difficult situations, I would never intentionally embarrass a player," Boughner wrote in a press release.
Boughner stated that he has since reached out to Kuchmey and his family.
The Spitfires play the Knights again tonight on home turf.
It is unlikely Kuchmey will play.
If the Spitfires lose the Thursday night game, they will be out of the playoffs this season.
