In a city where the unofficial motto seems to be "out with the old and in with the new," it can be hard to imagine what Calgary looked like when it started out as a frontier town.
Amid a skyline that continues to grow up and out, there are still architectural and design gems that linger, taking us back to the days when Calgary still had that small town, pioneer feel.
The Calgary Herald and Swerve Magazine have asked Calgarians to take photos of these treasured landmarks and tag hashtag "#oldyyc" on Twitter and Instagram.
The results are a nice reminder of the city's history — and how much progress it has made since the first European settlers arrived in the area in 1873.
