The art of burlesque has been around for more than a century and can still be found being performed by celebrities and even in your local city.
Today, the modern-day burlesque dancer has a few fashion staples: (literally) breathtaking corsets, blinged out bras and panties, high high heels, long gloves, garter belts and stockings and plenty of makeup.
Back in the 19th century however, exotic dancers looked a lot different.
Postcards from the Charles McCaghy Collection at the Ohio State University Libraries have been dug up and they show Dita Von Teese's predecessors rocking their own unique burlesque looks.
In the photos, the dancers wear tight corsets that show off their tiny waists, bodysuits with fringe, floral underwear and even a horse costume (with tail and hooves, natch).
It's interesting to see the craftsmanship and creativity that went into the creation of these beautiful garments, which celebrate not only women's sexuality but their femininity as well.
