'Gossip Girl' Inspires Vancouver Teen Shaming Blog

'Gossip Girl'-Inspired Shaming Blog Probed By Vancouver Police

A teen shaming blog that was reportedly inspired by the TV show "Gossip Girl" has been linked back to a student at an all-girls private school in Vancouver.

Pat Dawson, head of the prestigious Crofton House, told CTV News that a Grade 8 girl is involved with the site called Vancouver Taddler.

The site was started last week by an anonymous blogger who asked for people to email "all the scandalous secrets for the highest revenge" in the same vein as "Gossip Girl," reported the news outlet.

"Gossip Girl" is a teen drama about an anonymous rumour website that chronicles the lives of New York's elite teens.

The Vancouver blog published private text messages between teens about plans to have sex, photos of kids edited with graphic drawings, and crude commentary about "hook ups" and body parts, The Vancouver Sun reports.

Vancouver police are investigating, Sgt. Brian Montague confirmed to The Huffington Post B.C. in an email.

"While the Internet can offer incredible possibilities for kids, there are risks," Montague said. "Everyone needs to have a better understanding of how to use technology in a responsible manner. Safety and privacy issues are always a concern and can potentially become criminal in nature."

“Any sexual picture of people under the age of 18 can fall under the definition of child pornography," RCMP Const. Matt Van Laer of the Integrated Child Exploitation Unit told the Sun. "It is a criminal offence to distribute or share these images."

The blog has been deleted from Tumblr.
