Stoner Food And Munchies For 4/20

As the unofficial day to celebrate marijuana arrives on April 20, it seems only appropriate to take a look at what might be on the shelves in pantries and fridges for those who are indulging.

First off, we should note that while Canada's laws surrounding marijuana are changing seemingly daily, for now, recreational use remains illegal, if largely unenforced. Since March, medicinal use can now be prescribed by doctors for those with conditions that warrant it.

But 4/20 has long been a day that sees large rallies of advocates for the legalization weed across Canada, starting in Vancouver in 1995 and spreading across the country ever since.

One of the many side effects of smoking marijuana is the so-called "munchies," which earlier this year, scientists linked to weed's active ingredient, THC, causing people to smell and taste things more poignantly, reports Smithsonian magazine.

Regardless of the reason, there is a long and storied history of "stoner food," which includes everything from grilled cheese sandwiches with potato chips to THC-infused lollipops. announced it will be delivering pizza, a stoner's perpetual favourite food, to rallies at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Dundas Square in Toronto and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Given the coinciding this year of Easter Sunday and 4/20, it seems inevitable that Cadbury Creme Eggs and bunny-shaped gummy candies would play a part in some people's snacks, but here are some favourite ingredients from recipes around the web that stoners might just be combining into tastebud-exploding creations this Sunday.
