'Wakey Wakey, Backes!': St. Louis Blue Mocked After Vicious Hit (VIDEO)

'Wakey Wakey': NHLer Mocked After Vicious Head Shot

First St. Louis Blues captain David Backes took a vicious hit to the head.

Then he was mocked for it.

Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook was suspended for three games after putting an elbow to Backes's head and slamming him into the boards on Saturday. It happened during Game 2 of a first-round playoff series that the 'Hawks trail 2-0.

A YouTube video showing the aftermath of the incident shows someone saying "Wakey wakey" to Backes after the hit.

The video's description credits the words to Seabrook's teammate Duncan Keith, but it isn't clear who said them.

For his part, Keith neither confirmed nor denied it was him, The Toronto Sun reported.

"There's lots of things that get said out on the ice in the course of a hockey game, especially in playoffs," Keith said.

"I'm an emotional guy. It's an emotional game. I don't remember everything that gets said out there."

Backes will miss Game 3 with what's being called an "upper body injury," TSN reported.

Seabrook is no stranger to dangerous head shots in hockey games.

In 2010, he took a hit from former teammate and then-Ducks defenceman James Wisniewski that left him with a concussion, The Chicago Tribune reported.
