Would-be donors only need their birth date and health card number to register.
Health Minister Fred Horne says help is needed as more than 500 Albertans are waiting for an organ transplant and many more are on a list for tissue.
The province hopes the registry will reverse a trend that has seen organ and tissue donations drop by 40 per cent in the last decade.
Albertans will also soon be able to register their intent to donate when they renew their driver's licences.
The registry stems from amendments passed in the legislature last November.
