Executive committee rejects pay hike for Toronto councillors

Toronto city councillors are unlikely to be getting a pay raise beyond the rate of inflation in the years ahead.

On Wednesday, the city’s executive committee rejected the possibility of giving city councillors a 12.9 per cent pay increase as of next year.

Instead, councillors will receive an annual increase that is in line with changes in the cost of living.

The executive committee had been expected to reject the proposed pay increase ahead of Wednesday’s meeting. The pay-raise matter will now go to council.
