On their last day of the royal tour, Kate Middleton and Prince William were in a rather sombre mood, and their wardrobe reflected it.

The royal couple got up at dawn on Friday to attend a previously unannounced appearance at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia.

To mark the solemn occasion, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a cream scarf, leather gloves and a black coat dress with a jacquard diamond print while William wore a black wool coat which was pinned with the two medals given for service to Queen Elizabeth-the golden jubilee medal and the diamond jubilee medal.

So as to not distract from the important ceremony, Duchess Kate kept her styling simple with her signature wavy tresses and minimal makeup.

The Duke and Duchess arrived around 5 a.m. to commemorate ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day, a special day of remembrance, and quietly listened to readings and prayers.

Duchess Catherine will likely change into something more colourful as she moves on to the day's events, which include attending an ANZAC Day march, laying a wreath and planting a "Lone Pine" tree in the Memorial Garden.
