Drunks Arrested With 3-Year-Old In Car

B.C. RCMP who arrested two drunk adults in a vehicle were alarmed to discover a three-year-old boy in the back seat.

A traffic officer was patrolling West 3rd Street in North Vancouver when he noticed a passenger drinking alcohol in a parked car on Thursday at about 10:30 p.m., said an RCMP news release.

The 43-year-old woman — the boy's mother — and the 39-year-old male driver from Victoria, turned out to be "highly intoxicated." Police determined that both adults were not sober enough to care for the boy, and called social services to take custody of him.

The driver failed a roadside test and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.

Both adults were arrested for public intoxication and kept in police cells until they sobered up, said RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong.

The arrests come a day after news that RCMP stopped a Ferrari for speeding at 181 km/h — with a child in the car.
