60-year-old woman charged in drug-fuelled murder of 61-year-old B.C. resident

BURNABY, B.C. - The killing of a 61-year-old Burnaby, B.C., woman was targeted and drug related.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Jennifer Pound released those details while announcing a second-degree murder charge has now been laid in the Dec. 2, 2013 slaying of Christina Docherty.

The victim was found in her Hastings Street apartment and officers have never revealed how she died, although at the time they said Docherty was known to them and foul play was immediately suspected.

Sixty-year-old Trudy Hunter was arrested in Maple Ridge on Friday and is due to appear in provincial court in Vancouver.

Pound says the matter is now before the courts and she is releasing few other details.

She credits the perseverance of investigators in cracking the nearly five-month-old case.
