We all like to see ourselves reflected in pop culture, but for kids battling cancer, that isn't often so easy.
That's why a group of cartoonists from around the world have started Bald Cartoons, which takes everyday characters in kids' cartoons and make them bald. Their appearance mirrors that of some children who go through cancer treatment and lose their hair.
As shown in the video above, everyone from Garfield to Hello Kitty to Finn of "Adventure Time" have been "balded" to help kids cope. Roberto Fernandez, executive creative officer at the ad agency Ogilvy Brazil, who started the campaign with a childhood cancer non-profit in Sao Paulo, told NPR, that children "have to fight the prejudice from friends, from colleagues at school and from people they see on the street."
These cartoons can help them feel less alone and less different — and if they put a smile on their faces at the same time, all the better.
