"Obviously, we’re mindful of politics and the potential change, and we don’t want to waste money," TTC CEO Andy Byford said after a meeting of the transit commission.
The debate over whether to expand subway or LRT service in Scarborough has persisted long past the apparent final word last fall, when city council approved a plan for the former and a 30-year tax to help pay for it.
Mayoral contender Olivia Chow has said she'd revert back to an LRT if elected, and now Byford seems to be leaving both options open.
Mayor Rob Ford, a supporter of the subway plan, seemed surprised by Byford’s comments.
"I don’t where he’s getting this LRT from — this is a done deal," Ford told reporters. "I wish he would tell me what he's telling you. I support him, but I’m pretty frustrated."
