The swath of mud and debris took out a bridge and about 90 metres of the Enderby-Mable Lake Road, stranding residents and tourists.
Leigh Pearson of Vernon Search and Rescue says members swept the debris field for possible victims and were able to track down a couple of people who were unaccounted for earlier in the day.
BC Hydro spokesman Dag Sharman says four power poles came down and about 700 customers lost power, which will be difficult to restore because of the damaged road.
About 40 kilometres to the north in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, seven properties remain under evacuation order after a landslide hit McIntyre Creek last month.
Highway 23 north of Revelstoke and Highway 31 in the Kootenays were closed earlier in the day because of mudslides but Drive BC reports they have now reopened. (CKIZ, The Canadian Press)
