Purina Animal Hall Of Fame Honours Heroic Canadian Pets (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Honouring Canada's Heroic Pets

Adam Shaw was hiking with his family in Edmonton's Rundle Park with their dog, Rocky, when they heard screams coming from beneath a footbridge.

It was there that they found 10-year-old Krymzen Wagner trying to pull her nine-year-old sister Samara out of the icy water before she falling in herself.

Adam and Rocky rushed to save Krymzen, but Samara was carried away by the powerful current. As they tried to reach her, they too fell in the water.

Rocky's owner pushed the dog out of the water before using a leash to pull himself out.

The dog then leapt back in the water with the leash and, responding to Adam's calls, pulled Samara to safety.

Rocky is just one pet being that was inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame on Monday , which has recognized 164 brave dogs, cats and a horse over 46 years, said a news release.

The Husky/Labrador mix was recognized alongside Jake and Kyra, two German shepherds who saved their owner from a bear in Peterborough, Ont. in September 2013, CTV News reported.

In that incident, Lynn O'Connor was walking with the dogs when a black bear attacked, knocking her on her back.

Jake leapt over her and started barking at the animal, keeping the attention on him instead of his owner. The bear then knocked Jake over and went for O'Connor again. But this time Kyra stepped in, allowing the large animal to chase her down a trail.

O'Connor was bitten in two places, but she credited the dogs with saving her life.
