Government of Prince Edward Island expands coverage of cancer drugs

CHARLOTTETOWN - Nine cancer medications are being added to publicly funded drug programs in Prince Edward Island.

The government says the additional cost of adding the nine drugs is about $715,000, but the cost will be offset through savings found in modernizing the public drug program, such as reducing the price of generic drugs.

It says spending on the Pharmacare programs has increased by more than 40 per cent since the 2006-07 fiscal year as the government has added or expanded the number of drugs covered by provincial drug programs.
