VANCOUVER - West Vancouver police are looking for witnesses, including a cyclist, after a 52-year-old North Vancouver man died in a fall from his bicycle while crossing the Lions Gate Bridge.
Const. Jeff Palmer says the unnamed victim fell as he cycled northbound on the east sidewalk of the bridge at about 12:30 Sunday afternoon, and although he was rushed to hospital, he could not be saved.
The wife of the dead man told officers she was riding about 70 metres behind her husband and was passed by a bicyclist described as in his 40's, wearing a helmet, sunglasses, riding clothes and had earphones in his ears.
The woman says she noticed her husband had fallen after he, too, was passed by the cyclist.
Another witness reported the same thing and unsuccessfully tried to alert the second rider before stopping and calling 911.
Investigators want to talk to anyone else who saw the incident, and they are very interested in speaking to the second cyclist, who did not stop and has not yet been identified.
