Newfoundland health board says employee inappropriately accessed patient records

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador's largest health board says one of its employees inappropriately accessed 20 patient records.

Eastern Health says the employee, who provided administrative support at a hospital in St. John's, has resigned in light of the investigation.

Don Keats, the interim CEO for Eastern Health, has apologized for the privacy breach, which he says was deliberate.

Keats says all patients affected have been identified and they will be notified.

He says the province's privacy commissioner has also been advised of the breach.
