'Flying Swallow Semen' Confuses The Heck Out Of Vancouver Chef

WTF Is 'Flying Swallow Semen'?

Talk about lost in translation.

Vancouver chef Pino Posteraro, of the famed Cioppino's, was out shopping for ingredients when he came across something rather, er, explicit.

A little bit of sleuthing revealed that "flying swallow semen" is actually jade fruit. It appears jade fruit is a common Chinese medicinal herb, and related to nutmeg — which is scientifically known as "semen myristicae fragrantis."

The herb is used in traditional Chinese medicine to help treat abdominal pain, lack of appetite, and vomiting.

Happy shopping!
