Star was arrested in the Jane Street and Highway 401 area, without incident, Toronto police report.
He was wanted by the FBI in New York for allegedly fraudulently obtaining over $10-million USD in loans through a mortgage schemes.
Police say that between January 2005 and May 2007, Star and others purchased real estate properties at foreclosure auctions using shell companies and then resold properties at inflated prices. It is alleged that the properties were then sold to straw buyers — people buying on behalf of others who for some reason cannot make the purchase.
The FBI was so interested in the Nigerian-born, Yiddish-speaking fugitive, his face was plastered on a billboard in Times Square, in the centre of Manhattan.
He was arrested in New York in 2010, and released on bail. He fled to Canada under an alias, police believe. He was in Toronto under the name Elvis Ized.
