Man faces murder charges in stabbing of two Calgary women

CALGARY - The estranged husband of a Calgary woman who was stabbed to death along with her friend is facing murder charges.

The two women were found by police officers earlier this month at a home in the city's southeast.

One woman was already dead and the second victim was transported to hospital where she later died.

A third woman who was in the home was treated in hospital and released for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the accused was found a short time later and taken to hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

Hari Pal, who is 52, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.

Pal's estranged wife, 36-year-old Sanjula Devi, was one of the victims. Also dead is Fahmida Velji-Visram, 29.

Police say Pal is still in hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. He has been in custody since the time of his arrest.

The case is to go before a court on Tuesday.
