Spring weather is wonky in some parts of British Columbia, with hail in the Okanagan and flooding risk in the south-central part of the province.
Early in the growing season, a hailstorm damaged fruit crops in the Oliver and Osoyoos areas Monday, reported Castanet.
Harj Dhillon, who has a 15-acre orchard, told the news outlet he lost all of his apple crop, and 70 to 80 per cent of his cherries and peaches in the storm that lasted around 15 minutes. Heavy rain also drenched the valley.
"I feel absolutely devastated," he said.
These short powerful storms are typical for this time of year, Environment Canada's Doug Lundquist told Castanet.
On Wednesday, the first evacuation alert of the spring was posted in south-central B.C. as run-off swells area rivers, creating the potential for flooding.
Residents living near Second Creek Canyon just north of Clearwater, about 120 kilometres north of Kamloops, are being warned to be ready to leave on short notice.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued the evacuation alert late Tuesday night, saying rising levels of the Clearwater River could sever area roads.
B.C.'s River Forecast Centre has posted a flood warning for the Clearwater River, while flood watches for the Quesnel and Horsefly rivers are also in effect.
