Quebec superstar Mitsou became a MuchMusic staple thanks to her cross-Canada smash "Bye Bye Mon Cowboy," but was a bit too much for Much after appearing naked in her follow-up single "Dis-Moi, Dis-Moi."
Turns out she didn't wear much more when she appeared at the 1991 MMVAs, then still called the Canadian MusicVideo Awards. Mitsou arrived in black lingerie under a see-through body-stocking and feather cuffs, much to the delight of the crowd.
"The 1991 awards was my third year working at Much," recalled John Keffer, director of the MuchMusic Video Awards. "When thinking back, I truly wasn't even sure if I worked on the show that year! But then I saw the footage of Mitsou, and that outfit, and it all came back to me. I remember it very well!
"That year's show seems so foreign to me now; a show starting in total daylight, no set to speak of, just some scaffold stages and truss with silver lights on it. It was messy, but there was real buzz and excitement in the air. There truly was an awesome party going on!"
