B.C. man rams vehicles, drives toward pedestrians, tries to fight off cops

VICTORIA - Police in Victoria are appealing for witnesses as they investigate a 41-year-old man accused of causing several intentional collisions, ramming a cruiser and driving at pedestrians.

Officers responded to a 911 call at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday after a man in a large grey truck bumped up against the driver's side of a car before stepping on the gas and trying to push the smaller vehicle out of the way.

Const. Michael Russell says that when officers caught up to the truck, the suspect rammed into a police car before taking off and heading toward a large group of people who scrambled to safety.

Russell says that as several officers tried to pull the truck over, the suspect drove toward a bus shelter where a person managed to flee.

He says the suspect drove off but then got out of his vehicle and tried to fight with officers who arrested him with the help of police dogs.

RCMP later checked the man's home in Duncan and found the front door open, with a marijuana grow-op inside.
