Edmonton-based soldier killed in motorcyle accident in Alberta

EDMONTON - A soldier from Edmonton-based 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group has been killed in a motorcyle accident near Medicine Lake in west-central Alberta.

The military says Sgt. Ginette Gauthier was part of a unit-led activity and was staying at the Snaring River campground in Jasper National Park.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Gauthier joined the Armed Forces in 1982 and was a resource management clerk.

She had deployed to both Afghanistan and the Sinai Peninsula, and was involved in the military's response to flooding in southern Alberta last year.

Brig.-Gen. David Anderson, commander of the brigade, described Gauthier as a dedicated, hard-working soldier who loved to ride.
