The Centre hospitalier régional de Trois-Rivières reviewed its security measures after a newborn was abducted on May 26. Day-old Victoria was returned to her parents a few hours after she was taken, thanks to social media and the quick thinking of some local youth.
Valérie Poulin Collins, 21, has been charged with kidnapping and abduction.
On Tuesday, the Trois-Rivières health agency announced upgrades to its video surveillance system and electronic bracelets that will transmit a signal if newborns are taken out of the maternity ward.
Gatineau Hospital said it will follow suit with electronic bracelets in maternity wards but must first raise funds for the new security measure.
Maternity wards in Ottawa already use electronic bracelets on newborns.
