Yvonne Jones says something needs to be done for communities in coastal Labrador, and she's calling on the province to review its air-freight subsidy programs for retailers who sell food to residents.
The program provides a subsidy for retailers on certain food items.
Transportation Minister Nick McGrath says the mark up of prices by retailers is a problem.
But McGrath says the province has no control over whether retailers who receive a subsidy pass on those savings to consumers.
Meanwhile, freight service is expected to resume to the coast this week depending on the weather.
The marine terminals will be accepting dry freight for shipping to Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale and Black Tickle, though ice conditions continue to prevent service to Nain and Natuashish.
