North Shore Rescue searches for missing tourist in Lynn Canyon Park

A 53-year-old Australian man hiking Wednesday with his wife in North Vancouver's Lynn Canyon Park has gone missing after the two agreed to split up and meet again around 11 a.m. PT.

North Shore Rescue spokesperson Doug Pope says when the man didn't show up, his wife started searching for him. He says North Shore Rescue was called out around 2:30 p.m. PT.

Pope says the man was healthy and relatively experienced, but Lynn Canyon is treacherous and it's possible he could have slipped along the top of the canyon wall.

He says the helicopter was called and searched up and down the creek and ground crews have been searching the trail network in case the man simply got lost.

Pope says the man's first name is Rick. He is five feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He was last seen near the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge.
