WATCH: Steve Nash's Favourite Sport Might Surprise You

He may be the best basketball player ever to come out of Canada, but if not for a change of schools in the 8th Grade, Steve Nash may well have been playing soccer and not basketball.

The Victoria B.C. native, speaking to Huff Post Live about his 7th Annual Showdown soccer charity match in New York City, said he loves soccer more than any sport. Nash recently returned from a trip to Brazil to watch some World Cup games and said he has a full blown case of World Cup fever.

Asked why he loves the beautiful game, Nash had a very eloquent response.

"For me, someone who grew up playing (soccer), it's the subtlety, someone's touch, their ability to control the ball, their vision. In soccer you have to be thinking ahead; you can't just get the ball and think, 'What am I going to do with it?'" said Nash. "You always have to be surveying, anticipating your next move. And that is a beautiful language."
