In hot hot Brazil, there's no doubt people are checking out the hot hot people — and we're not just talking about the attractive soccer players.

According to Quartz, location-based dating apps like Tinder and Grindr have seen an increase (at least 50 per cent for Tinder) in downloads and usage in Brazil since the start of the 2014 World Cup earlier this month. Gay dating site Grindr, on the other hand, saw an increase usage of 31 per cent since early June.

“The average Tinder user spends more than one hour a day on Tinder, approximately 77 minutes, and that number is up by nearly 50 per cent in Brazil since the start of the World Cup,” Tinder spokesperson Rosette Pambakian told Quartz.

With a mix of locals, tourists from around the world (an estimated 600,000 people), and of course Brazil's perfect weather and beaches, it's no surprise people are finding ways to hook up or meet someone new. Tinder also adds there are at least 10 million users across the world — so having a space for all of them is an extra plus.

And if you're like us and wondering which football players are using these apps, it turns out some coaches have strict (and strange) rules about sex during the World Cup. For example, teams from Russia, Mexico and Chile are banned from having sex, while teams from the U.S., Italy, Netherlands, Germany and Spain are allowed. And to make these rules even more detailed, players from France, for example, can have sex as long as they don't do it all night, according to Time magazine.

Of course, this isn't the first time (or will it be the last time) a combination of hot people and sporting events brought together eager people wanting to connect. During the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, athletes from around the world readily admitted to using Tinder to hook up in the Olympic Village.
