Drug, assault, impaired arrests in Wasaga Beach this weekend

The good weather brought people to Wasaga Beach this weekend, but the police were also hanging out in the popular beach town.

The Ontario Provincial Police have issued a half-dozen news releases relating to arrests they have made in Wasaga Beach since Friday night.

At 7:45 p.m. on Friday, an OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Stonebridge Boulevard. A 19-year-old Caledon, Ont., man inside that vehicle was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana.

Nearly four hours later, two males were stopped near Beach Drive. Police allege that one of the males had open alcohol.

The person without the alcohol allegedly "became aggressive and assaultive" toward police.

A 17-year-old Newmarket male was subsequently charged with assaulting a peace officer, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.

At 9:40 p.m., police were told that "a possible drunk driver" was trying to exit a beach area.

Police attended the scene and a 26-year-old Guelph, Ont., man was charged with an impaired-related offence.

At 11 p.m. that same night, a vehicle was stopped on Mosley Street after police believed it "showed signs of impairment." A 29-year-old Wasaga Beach resident now faces an impaired-related offence.

At 3:10 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Mosley Street. Officers allege that it was being operated by someone who was under the influence of alcohol.

A 32-year-old Toronto resident faces an impaired-related charge.

Just over a half-hour later, police were called to a disturbance in the Main Street and River Road East area.

A dispute between a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman "escalated" and police say the man shoved the woman to the ground.

A Maple, Ont., man has been charged with assault.
