Dan Boyle to join Rangers defence

The New York Rangers have added a veteran presence on their blue-line.

Free-agent defenceman Dan Boyle has agreed to join the Blueshirts after spending the past six seasons in San Jose.

Boyle, 37, had reportedly drawn interest from the Toronto Maple Leafs. He made $6.6 million US during the 2013-14 campaign, after which the Sharks traded his rights to the Islanders.

The 15-year veteran is coming off his least productive full NHL season (36 points in 75 games) since he had 22 points in 2000-01 with Florida. Boyle added four points in seven playoff contests.

Boyle also played five-plus seasons in Tampa Bay, where he was a member of the Lightning’s 2004 Stanley Cup winning squad.
